Join Soraya in our wee kitchen at our developing herb garden for a hands on lacto-fermentation workshop this November. We will be making nutritious ferments from veggies grown by the market gardeners right here on the farm, supplemented by other veggies to make our ferments. The veggies we use will depend on what’s available on the farm but may include cabbages, beets, kohlrabi and other seasonal veg supplemented with garlic, ginger, onions and carrots. Each participant will choose which veggies and flavours they would like to incorporate into their ferment and while we are all chopping will discuss the health benefits of fermented foods, how to make lacto-ferments, tips and tricks for success and how to incorporate them in your food.
Please bring along a medium-large thoroughly cleaned jam jar (or two as someone is bound to forget!) Wide necked jars are the easiest to use if you have a choice.
What Will this Session Cover?
This 2.5 hour session will be in the GRR co-op container down in the market garden on the farm and will be focussed on the process of lacto-fermentation and its use in not only preserving foods but also how to create amazing flavours. Participants will go home with a lacto-ferment made up of their choice of veggies and spices.
Who is this aimed at? Who can come?
This event is aimed at adults, and as we will be in our wee container we will be capping the numbers at 8 places. For these reasons we can’t cater for kids this time. It’s also not possible to bring your dog.
We will be meeting at the community entrance of the farm (the entrance next to the Toby Carvery) and will walk down to the market garden together as a group. Folks with mobility issues can park in the market garden entrance, right next to our container. There is limited room for this, so please get in touch if you would like to park here.
Wear waterproof shoes and weather proof clothes. The 10 minute walk from our meeting point to our kitchen may be very wet underfoot if it has been recently raining.
The majority of our remedy making session will be spent standing next to the kitchen counter, though we will have a few chairs around for folks wanting a sit down.
How Much Should I Pay?
This event is offered on a sliding scale – there is a Regular Price, a Subsidised Price and a Solidarity Price. The Subsidised places are limited to 1 ticket and are offered on a first come first serve basis.
Please pay a price that suits your personal circumstances, we don’t ask for or need any proof of your situation, and trust you to honour the system. We thank you for helping us to increase the accessibility of our workshops.
