Sashiko (traslated as ‘little stabs’) is a simple but beautiful form of Japanese embroidery. Thought to have originated in 17th Century Japanese, Sashiko was originally used as a way to strengthen fabric layers to make them more durable.
More recently it has been used to create stunning textile pieces , the patterns adding both texture and beauty to plain fabrics. It is perfect for upcycling fabrics in truly breathtaking new ways.
Once you have learned Sashiko techniques you will learn how satisfying it is as well as being incredibly multi-functional. It can be applied to a range of useful and ornamental items for the home as well as accessories and gifts.
The Sashiko workshop will be split into 3 hour classes and will run over 4 Saturdays (note dates carefully - there is a one week break in the course).
The participants will learn about the principles and techniques of Sashiko .
