Festival favourites Ljubljana Puppet Theatre return with Moč (The Power), an intimate puppet-object miniature exploring power, weakness and control.
Drawing the audience into a strange, distorted world, this intimate performance gives a double glimpse into the theme of power, the objects that enlarge or reduce, draw nearer or distance, hide or reveal the seen. In this work, which plays with varying notions of power and weakness, as well as of public and private, who is manipulating whom?
The company employ their trademark expert touch with marionettes to convey subtle and not-so-subtle shifts in and play with imagery of hegemony, using mirrors, strings, lights and glass.
Lutkovno gledališče Ljubljana (1948) is Slovenia’s central puppet theatre, which celebrated its 70th anniversary in autumn 2018. The Lutkovno gledališče Ljubljana performs twelve new works per year for children, young people and adults in six venues, combining classical puppet forms with a variety of contemporary performance practises. It organises the biennial festival of contemporary puppetry art LUTKE. Another important activity of the theatre is the preservation of the rich heritage of Slovenian puppetry, which is on display in the Museum of Puppetry in Ljubljana Castle.
This production was originally scheduled in 2022 and had to be postponed due to Omicron.
