Right on cue for all the excitement of the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe as well as the sell-out run of Oasis shows at Murrayfield Stadium, Mexican-inspired restaurant Wahaca is rising early throughout August. Its first-ever breakfast menu in Scotland will be available for the entire month at its St Andrew Square restaurant between 08:30 and 11:30 daily.
Known for its vibrant array of Mexican small plates, Wahaca is putting a tasty twist on traditional breakfast with a limited-edition menu featuring breakfast tacos, breakfast burritos and a choice of hearty Scottish-inspired sides - washed down with mouth-watering cocktails or a selection of fresh juices and hot drinks.
The special breakfast menu includes:
• Breakfast Tacos (from £5.95): Two soft tortillas filled with fried or scrambled eggs, frijoles and salsas and finished with a choice of chorizo, feta and spinach, streaky bacon or sweet potato and spinach.
• Breakfast Burritos (£10.00): Toasted flour tortillas with scrambled eggs, cheese, black beans, avocado and salsas and a choice of either feta and spinach or streaky bacon.
• Breakfast extras (from £1.50): Enter into the spirit of Scotland with some haggis or black pudding on the side of your taco or inside your burrito. There are veggie-friendly options too, including halloumi and avocado.
• Breakfast cocktails: Toast the Fringe with a spicy Bloody Maria (£9.95) or an alcohol-free Virgin Maria (£5.95)
“We’ve never opened for breakfast in Edinburgh before, but the energy of the Fringe inspired us to try something new,” said Wahaca co-founder Mark Selby.
“We’re hoping our delicious Mexican-inspired dishes will be a great way for festival-goers to start their day - whether they’re heading out to an early show or recovering from a late one.”
