A bestselling author and illustrator has launched a range of beautiful baby clothing and accessories, designed to inspire a love of stories from birth.
Edinburgh-based Catherine Rayner will be known to many from her award-winning illustrated books such as Augustus and his Smile, Arlo the Lion Who Couldn’t Sleep, Solomon the Crocodile and more.
Catherine Rayner babywear is a brand new collection of delightful baby clothing and accessories, designed by Catherine to make perfect gifts for newborns and toddlers alike. Featuring charming illustrations of Molly the hare, Olive the owl and Dexter the fox plus snippets of their story, this trio of special friends will delight little ones and their families. The range consists of practical, jersey fabric designs made from the softest pure cotton with the exclusive character illustrations reproduced in the finest detail.
Catherine's vision was to create a clothing collection centred around storytelling to encourage reading to babies from birth and to inspire a love of stories for life. Every garment comes with a tiny story booklet giving a peek into the enchanting world of Molly, Olive and Dexter and the fun and friendship that they enjoy together. All items are carefully wrapped in signature dragonfly tissue paper and include a free, handwritten greetings card featuring a personal message if required.
The character illustrations are replicated in beautiful detail across eye-catching baby grows, practical tops and joggers and cosy hooded wrap blankets. The range is unisex and items are available to fit babies from birth up to toddlers.
Catherine will continue to work with literacy charity Read for Good, donating 10% of the profits from the Catherine Rayner babywear range to support the organisation’s work in giving every child the opportunity to develop a love of reading.
Commenting on the new range, Catherine said, “I’m absolutely thrilled to launch a project that’s very close to my heart. I think that feeding children’s imagination and encouraging them to take pleasure in reading is one of the most important and rewarding parts of my job. I really love the idea of stories being part of the fabric of everyday life and that’s how the idea for this range was born.”
“This special project has been a long time in the making and I’m delighted with the end result. It was so lovely to see the finished pieces - business partner Nicola Legget and I have taken care to source the best fabric, print finish and find a manufacturer who could help bring my vision to life. It’s been challenging making this work with the global pandemic restrictions but opening that first shipment made everything worthwhile. I hope these packages, wrapped with love, will bring a smile to our customers’ faces when they unwrap their parcels!”
