This is the perfect space to build your confidence, explore engaging stories, and connect with fellow learners—without the pressure of traditional studying. It’s time to unleash your curiosity and learn Japanese at your own pace.
We utilise the Tadoku (多読) method, a relaxed and enjoyable approach to reading that allows you to absorb Japanese naturally. Forget about translating or using dictionaries—just focus on having fun! We offer a variety of reading materials, from graded readers to authentic picture books and comics, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
Here’s what you can expect:
- Read at your own pace: Choose books that truly interest you.
- Share or enjoy quiet time: Discuss your readings in Japanese or English, or simply spend time reading silently.
- Friendly guidance: If you’re unsure where to begin, we’re here to help!
Hitomi is an experienced Japanese educator with over 20 years in higher education and is also a published Tadoku author, making this a rare opportunity to learn from an expert. Whether you’re a beginner or more advanced, as long as you know some basic hiragana, you’re welcome to join!
Come and experience the joy of reading in Japanese—no pressure, just pure enjoyment!
You can choose a monthly or biweekly schedule. We will discuss the specific dates with you!
Times: 90 minutes/ session; we will finalise the specific timing with you!
Location: South Edinburgh--Fairmilehead (address will be provided upon booking)
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
