Japanese stab binding is a most satisfying way of binding single sheets of paper together, characterised by an exposed spine with stitch patterns that range from simple to intricate and down right mind boggling!
In this day long workshop local Bookbinder Cass will share her take on two Japanese stab stitches -
As an introduction to this style of binding, Cass will share how to make a simple set of notebooks featuring a Japanese stab zig zag stitch.
You will then move on to creating a hardcover hinged book incorporating remnant fabric into the cover, bound with an intricate 'hemp leaf stitch', featuring decorative pages and a pocket on the inside. The book you create in class will roughly measure 26.5 x 10.5cm but Cass will share how to scale up and down should you wish to experiment with size and scale in your own time.
Following the workshop you will receive access to comprehensive follow up video instructions and a helpful kit list so you can continue your making at home with a reminder of the process.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
