Finn Finity and the Great Christmas Maths Mystery is an interactive self-guided story set at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.
Follow in the footsteps of the Maths Week Scotland Mascot Finn Finity, on his journey around the museum as he tries to track down some missing Christmas presents.
Download or pick up a map of the museum, read the story whilst walking the same route as Finn, and complete the puzzles along the way. Each puzzle will let you eliminate one or more suspects until there is only one left. It’s a perfect activity for families to do together.
Successful super sleuths can download a certificate at the end of the trail, and enter a prize draw to win some Finn Finity goodies (the prize draw is open until 10 January).
The museum offers free WiFi, so you can download the story, map and puzzles on to your mobile device without worrying about using up data. There is a copy of all puzzle answers included too, in case you get stuck and need to check anything. You will find all the relevant downloads on the Maths Week Scotland website https://mathsweek.scot/events/finn-finity-and-the-great-christmas-maths-mystery
Most of the puzzles can be done on screen, with a notepad and pencil to help you. However, there are four puzzles that we recommend printing off if you can, along with a copy of the suspect list.
Please note: This is a self guided trail. Print outs of the puzzles are not available at the museum. You must do any necessary printing at home before your visit.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
