Cam Gavinski: Bonheur

About Cam Gavinski: Bonheur

Thai-American comedian, hilariously talented improviser, and witty writer, Cam Gavinski, known for his absurd characters and viral TikTok sketches makes his Edinburgh Fringe debut with his solo show: BONHEUR. Running from Aug 2 to Aug 28 (Aug 14 Day Off) at one of Edinburgh Fringe's longest-running and most iconic venues, the Gilded Balloon Teviot (Nightclub). Tickets On Sale On 10 May at 12PM BST - for & tickets visit: https://tickets.gildedballoon.co.uk/event/14:4914/

Every male comedian talks about his dick, but in BONHEUR, a coming-of-age musical solo show, Cam Gavinski talks to his dick: a penis puppet by the name of Pipi LeSpew. Together Cam and Pipi expose the true story of his adolescence ‌ when he was blackmailed by a stranger on the internet over pictures of his privates going public.

“It’s a post-modern woke tongue-in-cheek deconstruction of toxic-masculinity, also there’s a penis puppet”, explains Cam, “I snuck in adult humor for the parents, and then there’s a penis puppet for the kids.” “The show tells the story of the most embarrassing thing to ever happen to me, and I’m reliving it every night for a month. What could go wrong??? He yells sarcastically-over-the-top, since subtle humor doesn’t exist in America.” “It’s a touching show about touching. Cum for the penis puns, stay for the—-wait where are you going, I said stay—STAY!"

Cam Gavinski’s emergence as an online phenomenon comes as no surprise to anyone who has witnessed him rip it up at clubs up and down the USA the past few years. Cam has written, directed, and starred in multiple viral videos that have amassed over 20 Million Views across social media platforms: from surreal, wacky characters like “Jerry Spaghettihands” and “Flip Dip: The Cancelled Teletubby” to ear-worm songs about his depression and anxiety that make you laugh-til-you-cry and then cry-until you laugh again like “I didn’t do shit today” and “My Depression & Me.”

Having regularly performed on the road across the U.S.A. with veteran stand-up quipster comedian Todd Glass (Netflix, Tosh.0, Ten Year Old Tom), Cam has recently made is TV debut with roles in the latest season of Euphoria and Netflix’s teen comedy Boo, Bitch, of his experience on the HBO’s hit show Cam says; “I was flattered thinking they cast me as a hot teen, but then I got to set and they gave me a mustache and greasy hair. At least I made history by playing Euphoria's first Ugly Teen!”

A University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts graduate, Cam studied 2D animation, and Digital Arts, before making his bones on the comedy circuit performing improvisation at the Upright Citizens Brigade in Los Angeles. Cam has worked as a storyboard artist/animator on The Jim Jefferies Show on and worked on Nathan For You on Comedy Central. His animated short film Frank made the Student BAFTA shortlist and won Best Animated Short at Adobe First Look in 2019, and the PSIAF award for Best 2D Comedy Short.

Cam is part of the new generation of rising comedy stars that have made their name on social media, but what sets him apart are his skills on stage. Cam’s live performances have been taking Los Angeles by storm, and with Edinburgh Fringe signing his first mainstream debut, Cam is a promising talent on the rise, with no signs of slowing down.

On social media vs. live performance, Cam says; “We’re about to enter a live theatre/live show renaissance. Exponentially evolving A.I. gives non-artists the ability to create high-quality content at astronomical speeds, which is going to devalue content altogether to the point that “Content” will stop mattering. People will flock to tangible experiences. Live shows are going to be bigger than ever in the next few years.” Cam pauses and adds: “Either that or some sort of Mad Max apocalypse situation. Or both? A live stage-show of Mad Max: The Musical? Call me if you want to make millions Warner Bros.”.

If it is true that Americans tend to celebrate success and Brits love failure, Cam’s humour will knock British audiences out. As Stephen Fry explained in detail once - regarding comedy, one insightful observation of the British comic actor was that often the “heroes” of British comedy tend to be losers. They have high aspirations (and may also be pompous, or pretentious), but they are constantly failing to pull themselves out of the hole.

“My Grandfather’s from the U.K. I’m both British and Native American, which makes family reunions awkwaaaard. Genocide’s a crazy thing huh”, Cam enthuses.
