Soulful and sophisticated, The Staves sing tales of joy and sorrow, love and loss, shifting seamlessly from lo-fi acoustic to full-bodied ballad. The Watford-born sisters, Emily, Jessica and Camilla Staveley-Taylor, are an arresting musical force. After recording with Tom Jones, the band released their debut album, Dead & Born & Grown, in November 2012 via Atlantic Records. Their second record, If I Was (produced by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon) saw the band scale new genres and heights to much critical and commercial acclaim.
Their deeply personal third record, Good Woman, released in February of this year, was produced by John Congleton (famous for his work with St Vincent, Sharon Van Etten and Angel Olsen). Marking a sonic departure from their previous work, the record was influenced by a series of life-changing events, including the loss of their mother, the birth of Emily’s first child and the end of a long relationship. The album has been hailed by the likes of NPR, The Guardian, Mojo, Times, Clash, Record Collector, The Independent and Dork amongst others for its pristine vocal harmonies, emotionally-candid delivery, biting lyrics and honest portrayal of the trials of womanhood, motherhood and sisterhood.
