As part of their International Festival residency, musicians from the São Paulo-based collective Ilumina perform a vibrant repertoire of música popular brasileira (popular Brazilian music – otherwise known as MPB), with the dynamic Brazilian percussionist, Edmundo Carneiro. MPB embraces genres that have roots in bossa nova, a mellow style of samba that originated in Rio de Janeiro in the late 1950s. From samba to baião, MPB keeps Brazilian traditions vibrant through constant reinterpretation.
Under the vision of Artistic Director Jennifer Stumm, Ilumina unites young musicians from varied origins in Latin America with world-leading soloists. Ilumina prides itself on being a model for 21st-century musical innovation, underpinned by advocacy for inclusive diversity and fresh programming.
Come and experience their soul-stirring spirit and transformative style in our Festival home.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
