The annual Loch Lomond Food and Drink Festival, held at Loch Lomond Shores, on the 6th and 7th September, is bringing new talent, new entertainment and even more fun for foodies this year – and we can’t wait!
On Saturday 6th, Loch Lomond will be visited by Vikings in the form of The Viking Heritage Kitchen. Festival goers will be transported back in time and get the chance to witness a sensory, outdoor demonstration of authentic Viking cooking over open fires. This fantastic FREE experience isn’t just fun for the whole family, it’s also incredibly educational and a unique chance to witness what it was like to be a Viking! Head to the meadow on the promontory to witness a living, breathing history lesson.
On Sunday 7th the meadow will be in full use again with the arrival of the ever popular The Drakes of Hazard. Mark and his sheepdogs and ducks will be performing their hilarious shows at 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3pm offering brilliant FREE family entertainment.
Saturday 6th chef demonstrations will be hosted by festival favourite and local chef Rohan Wadke at 12pm. 1.15pm and 2.30pm, where he’ll be focusing on vegetarian seasonal produce.
Sunday 7th chef demonstrations will be hosted by a Kyle Hassall, a first-time visitor to the festival and the culinary talent behind Catering Thyme, The Boathouse, and Mojitos in Upton in Worcestershire. Kyle will be bringing delicious Mediterranean flavours to his demonstrations at 12pm, 1.15pm and 2.30pm.
Paisley Pie Co will be with us on Sunday with their award-winning pies and, between 10am and 3pm with an amazing pie-eating competition, which is perfect for pie lovers – and frankly, can you even call yourself Scottish if you don’t love a good pie?! They will be producing a special spicy pie, with Scotch Bonnet, for the competition and anyone who’s up for the challenge can take part between 10am and 2pm, and those who manage to eat a whole one will be entered into the Final at 3pm!’ The winner will receive a £100 voucher for the Paisley Pie Co as well as merch and a winner’s medal! And with all proceeds of a £5 entry going to Cash for Kids, and Clyde One’s very own Cassi hosting the final, you’re doing an amazing thing for disadvantaged kids throughout Scotland!
And if you think all of this is enough foodie fun, think again. We’ll have over 70 vendors filled with fresh produce, baked goods, gifts and much, much more as well as street food from across the world all weekend for you to enjoy. Tuck into everything from haggis to hog roast or, if you’re feeling adventurous, anything from Hawaiian to Mexican, while picking up some gourmet food from a mix of local producers and across the UK.
Audrey Calder from Loch Lomond Shores comments: “It’s going to be an amazing festival, and we can’t wait to welcome visitors and enjoy all the amazing food on offer, entertainment and atmosphere! We’re all particularly excited this year to welcome new talent and experiences that will wow visitors and strengthen an already brilliant FREE festival!”
For foodies without children, why not leave the car at home and enjoy some loch-side cocktails and drinks at our festival bar on both days?
For foodies bringing children along to the festival, we’ll also have bubble shows and stilt walking on Saturday and on both days we’ll have children’s rides, the Loch Lomond Shores Express train and all the great things that Loch Lomond Shores offers – SEA LIFE, playpark, water sports and boat & bike hire, loch cruises & trips, Go Wild Loch Lomond aerial adventures, adventure golf and our beaches and woodland.
And last, but by no means least, don’t forget to visit our stores and do a wee bit of retail therapy to finish off your perfect day.
