The open mic competition will take place on Saturday 9 August at Stockbridge Social, the city’s new outdoor food and drink market powered by Innis & Gunn.
Timed perfectly for the afternoon before Oasis play Murrayfield, the event gives fans the ultimate chance to warm up their vocals on the Britpop anthem - a song which has racked up over 2.4 billion Spotify streams and is a consistent top 10 karaoke hit.
Hosted by A View from the Terrace’s Craig Telfer, performances will be judged by a panel of Wonderwall connoisseurs. The winner will take home a “Wonderwall” of Innis & Gunn - six feet of award winning Scottish beer - while every participant will receive a pint of Innis & Gunn Lager Beer for stepping up to the mic.
The competition is being staged in honour of Oasis, the Britpop icons fronted by brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, who have reunited for three sold out nights at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium on August 8, 9 and 12.
Innis & Gunn are inviting Oasis lovers to put their best foot forward and share their take on Wonderwall live on stage. The track has become a staple of pub corners and student flats for nearly 30 years. With countless versions out there, there can only be one winner. And anyone can enter on the day.
Dougal Sharp, Founder and Master Brewer at Innis & Gunn, said: “Like Oasis, we have never been afraid to do things our own way.
“Wonderwall has cemented itself into British culture and everybody knows it. And after all, as soon as those opening chords ring out, you know it’s going to be a good time.
“With the Gallaghers coming to Edinburgh, we thought it was the perfect time to let people have their own moment in the spotlight. Grab a pint, grab the mic and show us your Wonderwall.”
Stockbridge Social is a new venture powered by Innis & Gunn. Set within the oasis of Stockbridge at the Edinburgh Academicals sports ground, Food traders include Cromars, previously crowned East Scotland’s best fish and chips. They’ll be joined by steak frites specialists Flame to Fork, cult pizza outfit Wanderers Kneaded. As well as Innis & Gunn’s award-winning beer, Edinburgh Gin and Lost Orchards, the cider makers known for replanting Scotland’s lost orchards, will be on offer. Stockbridge Social joins Innis & Gunn’s growing Edinburgh portfolio, which already includes the popular Mound site.
The Wonderwall World Championships will be taking place on Saturday 9 August from 1pm, with free entry on the day.
