Edinburgh Open Workshop Launches Autumn Programme of Hands-On Courses

Following a sell-out spring term, Edinburgh Open Workshop is excited to unveil its brand-new Autumn Course Programme, running from September to December 2025. The upcoming season features an expanded offering of practical, creative, and confidence-building classes in woodworking, welding, upcycling, and DIY.

Whether you’re picking up a tool for the first time or looking to refine your craft, there’s something for everyone in this skill-packed lineup.

Highlights from the Autumn Programme include:

Woodworking:
• Basics of Woodworking – A perfect starting point for beginners
• Handcraft a Double Step Stool
• Handcraft a Shaker-Style Drying Stand
• Introduction to Fine Woodworking
• Make Your Own Multifunctional Table
• Learn to Make Your Own Furniture
• Introduction to Furniture Design and Making - week long course

Welding:
• Introduction to MIG Welding - Choose between a 2-day intensive or a 4-week course

Mixed Media & DIY:
• Introduction to DIY - Build, fix, and finish small home projects with confidence
• Craft a Stool - A creative welding + woodworking fusion course
• Furniture Upcycling - Back by popular demand
• Painting Wooden Wall Art - Add a personal touch to your home décor

“Our autumn programme builds on the energy and enthusiasm we saw this spring and summer,” said Jessi James, Development Manager at Edinburgh Open Workshop. “We’re offering even more opportunities to create, learn, and make something you can be proud of - whether it’s your first project or your fiftieth!”

And it’s not too late to level up over the summer holidays if you still have some extra time. The week-long Furniture Design & Making course is ideal for honing your woodworking skills in a supportive, hands-on environment. Or learn how to create your own geometric designs with our Furniture Upcycling and Painting Wooden Wall Art workshops. These full and half-day classes run in July and August - giving you a chance to add some sunshine to your home decor.

Courses are taught in small groups at Edinburgh Open Workshop’s purpose-built facility in Leith, led by experienced tutors and designed to give participants the confidence to continue making at home or in the studio.
