July Grow How: Pest Control for a Healthy Garden
Dobbies Garden Centres is hosting free Grow How demonstrations across the UK to encourage the nation to grow their own and make the most of their outdoor and indoor spaces. These educational workshops are made to be flexible and fun, taking around 30 minutes for the demonstration and Q&A session.
The Grow How workshops will take place on Wednesday 2 and Saturday 5 July at 10:30am and 3:30pm and will be hosted by the Dobbies’ Green Team. The team will share their top tips on dealing with unwanted garden pests and will encourage participants to ask any questions they may have on keeping their garden pest free.
The workshop will cover slugs and how to tackle them; wasps and flies; dealing with ants and rats, alongside pest-repelling plants. Dobbies’ Green Team will also highlight which plants are effective in combatting pests and how to encourage wildlife, such as hedgehogs, that can help to reduce garden pests. The Green Team will also be on hand to answer any gardening and pest control advice throughout the session.
Dobbies’ Plant Buyer, Nigel Lawton, is looking forward to what the July Grow How workshop on pest control has to offer. He said: “Slugs and pests affect nearly every garden, yet there are many simple tips we can follow to help control the problem and prevent them from damaging our gardens.
“Customers attending this month’s Grow How workshop can learn more about detecting the early signs of pest damage to help prevent future issues, allowing everyone to make the most of garden living this summer."
Free children’s gardening workshop
Dobbies Garden Centres is inspiring young explorers and inviting families along to its free-to-attend Little Seedlings Club workshop this July. Little explorers will get the chance to discover the wonders of the rainforest by learning all about what makes it so special and important for the environment.
The free Little Seedlings Club at Dobbies takes place every month and gives children the chance to learn something new about a variety of topics, while having fun in a friendly group setting and taking part in some hands-on activities.
Wonderful Rainforests, taking place on Sunday 6 July, will educate children on the rainforests around the world, why they are important and the different layers of the rainforest. They’ll learn about some of the unusual and wonderful plants and creatures you can find in a rainforest, before taking part in fun games and activities.
Children will also get the chance to find out what tropical plants we can have in our homes so they can transform any room into their own rainforest, while also creating their own jumping paper rainforest frogs.
Dobbies’ Events Programme Manager, Ayesha Nickson, is pleased to welcome families across the UK along to this exciting event. She said: “The Wonderful Rainforests Little Seedlings Club will be an excellent chance for children to learn some meaningful knowledge on the environment while having fun and getting involved in games and crafts.
“Our free Little Seedlings Club is a fantastic opportunity for families to come together at Dobbies and for kids to make friends in a fun and engaging group setting.”
Spaces are limited and advanced booking is recommended. Visit the website to reserve a spot today, www.dobbies.com/events
