Newly decorated and with a new drinks menu and restaurant, Festival Village have brought nature into the heart of the city by partnering with two local independent brands - Smugglers Spirits and the Secret Garden Distillery.
The venue, which sits between the Princes Street Gardens and The Balmoral Hotel, has undergone a complete summer redecoration. New eye-catching bar designs add splashes of colour to the site, while spectacular floral displays contribute to a laid-back summer aesthetic. Add to this stunning views of famous landmarks such as Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh Castle and the Scott Monument, and Festival Village is the ideal setting to grab a refreshing pint or boozy slushie whilst taking photos for the ‘gram.
The summer makeover is part of a plan to make the site above Waverley Station more sustainable. This has included switching to recycled PET plastic drinking cups and working with waste management partners who turn general waste into compressed bricks used in construction, as well as working with local suppliers to provide customers with sustainable food and drink options.
The new headline sponsor of Festival Village is Smugglers Spirits, a local independent brand with sustainability at the heart of what they do. Their handcrafted spirits are created using naturally grown Scottish botanicals, and inspired by the rich, exciting history of Edinburgh’s smuggling past. The brand have also developed an exclusive new flavour range to mark their partnership with Festival Village. The three vibrant and colourful flavoured gins reflect the fun, lively atmosphere at the popular city-centre drinking spot. The new gin flavours include Strawberry, Orange and Raspberry, and they are all completely natural and made with locally grown botanicals. Smugglers’ hotly anticipated Scottish Vodka will also be available.
Also sponsoring Festival Village this summer are the Secret Garden Distillery, which craft gins made with 100% natural ingredients at the foot of the Pentland Hills. Their new Secret Garden Restaurant offers a menu of light bites inspired by the herbs and botanicals grown at the Secret Garden Distillery’s stunning herb garden. A tailored cocktail menu featuring the Secret Garden Gin will also be a key feature. The open-air restaurant will bring a taste of the Secret Garden Distillery’s natural world to the city of Edinburgh and is decorated with living displays that capture carbon from busy city life.
Festival Village are continuing to provide plenty of choice for hungry customers by partnering with local street food vendors Pizza Geeks, Say Cheese, Butcher Boy, and new kids on the block Brothers Poutinerie. Festival Village are a well-known live music venue, and support local up-and-coming musicians in their careers. Live music can be heard all summer at the Smugglers Stage from 2pm every day.
Area Manager Danny McCormick says: “We are thrilled to be working with so many fantastic local businesses to provide exciting multi-dimensional experiences for our customers in the heart of Edinburgh. The thought process behind these brand partnerships is to celebrate and promote each other as local independent brands with sustainable values, creating a sense of community both for ourselves and our customers. The Festival Village experience has never been more authentically Edinburgh.”
Festival Village is the perfect place to enjoy summer in the city, with locally sourced food and drink, music from up-and-coming local artists and an atmosphere unlike any other. Guests can even bring their four-legged friends, who’ll be welcomed with water, treats and plenty of attention. As a community of local independent Edinburgh businesses, Festival Village: Waverley captures Edinburgh’s summer festival feeling all year round.
