Starting at Edinburgh’s Dalkeith Country Park next week (Wednesday 12 August) before heading to Glasgow’s Skyport Park & Ride later in the month, the Parking LOL Comedy Night will be headlined by Glasgow’s Marc Jennings, who tops the bill at both cities.
Marc won the Scottish Comedian of the Year award in November last year and is a regular panellist and writer on the BBC Scotland satirical show Breaking the News. He sold out his entire run at the Edinburgh Fringe last year and has a massive online following with over five million views of his YouTube clips.
Joining Marc on stage are comedy favourites Susie McCabe, Des McLean and Stuart Mitchell. Susie also sold out her Edinburgh run last year and won the Best Show award. Des is one of the best-known faces on the Scottish comedy circuit and Stuart has been building up an international following, taking his show to the Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne Comedy Festivals.
Josh Kinnersley, Chief Operating Officer of XL Event Lab, said: “We reckon it’s going to be the biggest comedy show that has been staged in Scotland since lockdown and it’s great that the public will be able to see these brilliant comedians again, especially as so many of them have had to have cancel shows this summer.
“The Edinburgh festival should have been in full swing just now so hopefully what we’re putting on around Scotland will give people a taste of what they’re missing.”
Audiences will watch the comedians from two 40ft screens, with live audio transmitted directly from the stage to custom-made wireless headphones and through a dedicated FM radio channel for listening via the car stereo. Audiences will also be encouraged to show their appreciation for performers by tooting their car horn if they like what they hear.
Fans can get their comedy fix in Edinburgh on Wednesday 12 and 19 August, with the Glasgow shows taking place on 26 August and 2 September.
As well as a stellar line up of comedy, movies and live sport, The Parking Lot Social is also keeping children entertained this summer. FUNBOX, formerly known as The Singing Kettle, will be hosting a special Saturday morning show for kids. The swash-buckling Pirate Party will feature singalong fun and games, with families encouraged to dawn their best pirate costumes before taking to the high seas.
The FUNBOX Pirate Party takes place in Edinburgh on Saturday 15 August and Glasgow on 29 August.
In keeping with Scottish Government guidelines, The Parking Lot Social has designed all events with audience safety and social distancing in mind – with additional measures in place when entering the site, getting food delivered and taking a trip to the loo.
Tickets for the Parking LOL Comedy Night and FUNBOX Pirate Party start from £31.90 per car.
