Barnton Park Tennis Club announced today that they will be officially opening their new padel court on Sunday 22nd September, at a special event where anyone can come and try out the game.
After partnering with Game4Padel to build the court, Barnton Park’s facility will be operational from early September, but will be officially opened by the Davis Cup winning captain Leon Smith on the 22nd September with an open day of exhibition padel tennis, children’s coaching clinics and an official ribbon cutting.
Padel, which is the fastest growing sport in the world is a cross between tennis and squash and is extremely popular across Europe. It uses the tennis scoring system and has very similar balls, but it is played on a court with enclosed glass walls much like a squash court.
The open day will be free to attend, and all attendees will have an opportunity to try out padel. Rackets and balls will be provided and there will opportunities to win t-shirts and an array of prizes throughout the day. More information on the open day can be found at game4padel.com and the G4P Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/game4padel/
There will also be a soft launch period before the open day where people can book a padel court for free at Barnton Park LTC. After the open day, the padel court will be open to pay and play players. A Game4Padel membership is already available at only £5/month offering discounts on court bookings, padel classes, events, equipment, etc. For more information please go to game4padel.com
Speaking ahead of the open day David Duncan of Barnton Park commented on the new facility “We are delighted to be one of the first clubs in the local area to offer padel tennis to our members and non members. Padel is an exciting sport, for all ages, and we really think there will be a growing appetite for it in Scotland. The open day is one of a number of things we’ll be doing in the coming months and we look forward to welcoming anyone who fancies giving it a go on the 22nd.”
Commenting on the latest successful Padel offering, Jim McMahon, executive chair of Game4Padel commented: “It’s great to be opening this court at Barnton Park Tennis Club. The club has been the perfect partner for us – with a healthy number of existing racket sport fans, the ability to open its facilities to a wider audience outside of club members, and a site which offered the right space for a court. We will be supporting the club after the launch event with our management and booking systems, coaching programmes and maintenance to ensure that the court is well used and well looked after. There are further builds and plans underway at other clubs across the country, which will continue to allow us to establish this rapidly growing sport in the UK.”
