Scottish sustainable knitwear brand Woolkind has opened a new Edinburgh studio and showroom, and is also set for its first retail residency in the city this winter.
A studio open day on Saturday 27th September will allow customers to discover Woolkind's collection of scarves, gloves, vests and wraps, all knitted in-house using 100% superfine merino wool. Open day visitors will have exclusive access to new season colours and styles with a glass (or two!) of fizz.
Tucked away down a cobbled Edinburgh lane, customers are welcome to visit the light-filled studio to shop the collection and see garments being made from the cones of vibrantly-coloured yarns which decorate the walls. Woolkind is the antithesis of fast fashion - everything's made in small batches or to order, with limited edition colours and designs, and customisable with your choice of colours and patterns.
Founder Laurence Di Sotto was taught to knit at an early age by his Scottish grandmother, and has a vision to create knitwear for life, not just one season. Whether you fancy no-fuss neutrals, clashing colours or subtle soft stripes, there's something to suit everyone, and every body - Woolkind celebrates the joy of diversity, individuality and size inclusivity. The brand’s ethical supply chain means that everything is fully traceable and (beautifully) wrapped in compostable packaging.
Commenting on the studio launch, Laurence Di Sotto said, “This is a really exciting step for Woolkind and a special moment for me personally. I’ve always wanted to create a place where people can enjoy beautiful knitwear, made with love and created with the aim of making them look and feel great. The new studio is a beautiful space to knit our garments and meet clients, and crucially gives us capacity to continue to grow the business. We’re proud to produce quality knitwear made here in Edinburgh and this investment will allow us to expand the team and bring our joyful collection to a wider audience.”
The brand is also looking ahead to its first retail residency, popping up at Shop With No Name, 2a Broughton Place, Edinburgh from 24th October - 23rd November. The full collection will be available to purchase from the city centre site, allowing shoppers to see the garments and colours available, or to place orders for bespoke items - perfect timing to find Christmas gifts that will last a lifetime, or to treat yourself to an accessory to cherish for years to come.
