Looking for a new outdoors activity? Something that's family friendly and gets the kids outside, or that will give you a different type of exercise with a bit of mental challenge too? Want to explore new places? Then orienteering is for you!

Come along and try it with Interlopers Orienteering Club at Braidburn Valley Park, on the afternoon of Saturday 4 October, anytime 1.30-3pm (courses close at 4pm).
Orienteering is an adventure sport that exercises both body and mind. Using a map, the aim is to find the best way round a set of check-points. Compete with others or just enjoy the challenge of navigating round your course and exploring. Run, jog or walk; participate as an individual, pair of family. It’s a lot of fun for all ages and abilities.
There’s something for everyone at this event, whether complete beginners or experienced competitors. We’re putting on a wide range of courses of different lengths and challenge, including shorter and easier options for children and families. There’s also a longer-easier course that’s ideal for adult newcomers who want a bit more distance for their run or walk.

All welcome – and if you’re new to orienteering, there will be club volunteers around to help you get started.
Braidburn Valley Park is a great area to explore with autumn colour, a nature trail, views to the Castle and the Pentlands, a green gym and play equipment.
See our website for full details.
Enter via RaceSignUp – sign up by midnight on 29 September to guarantee a map; some entry on the day subject to map availability (first-come-first-served).
Contact events@interlopers.org.uk for any queries.
If you can’t make the event, you can orienteer anytime at Braidburn Valley for free, using the set of permanent markers – download .pdf course maps from the Interlopers website, https://interlopers.org.uk/go-orienteering/permanent-areas-2/permanent-areas. Courses are available of varying lengths and navigational challenge.
There are Permanent Orienteering Courses all over the country, including others in Edinburgh (e.g., Craigmillar Castle Park). You can download maps from local club websites, or the British Orienteering Portal at https://www.goorienteering.org.uk/permanent-orienteering-courses.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
