“It’s one thing to be chasing monsters; it’s another to realise you’ve become one.”
Meet Beastie: Man, myth, monster hunter.
In a tumbledown bothy on the banks of Loch Mòrar, the legends run as deep as the water. One man’s quiet existence is capsized when he finds himself at the epicentre of a viral documentary.
Thrust into the spotlight as “The Hermit of Morar”, he’s forced to reckon with a lifetime of half-truths, legacy and the monsters — real and otherwise— that have shaped him.
Blending dark humour and raw storytelling with contemporary lighting, animation and an original folk score, Beastie is a captivating solo odyssey through Scotland’s wild places — where memory and myth blur, the past refuses to stay buried, and the human stories behind some of the country’s murkiest tales begin to surface.
Part Highland ghost story, part fever dream, it asks: why do we feel the need to create monsters out of the things we can’t explain? Brought to life by a powerhouse performance from Fraser Sivewright (The Testament of Gideon Mack), the production is created by an acclaimed artistic team.
Written by Izzy Gray (Keepers of the Light)
With original music by Quee MacArthur (Shooglenifty)
Movement by Dawn Hartley (What Moves You; My Friend Selkie)
Lighting Design by Tom Sulat (Hidden Door)
Illustrations by Rachael Gray
