Goudie’s work reflects a life lived with conviction – rooted in place, family, and the expressive power of paint.
Born in Paisley in 1933, Goudie was a precocious talent who embraced both classical rigour and flamboyant expression, and he lived a dual life in France and Scotland. Whether capturing Breton customs or Glaswegian splendour, Goudie’s art brims with colour, drama, and human warmth.
This exhibition is not just about the past, it is a signal to the future. Just as Goudie’s Glasgow radiated light and potential, so too does the city today. With investment in cultural infrastructure, a thriving creative community and a renewed civic confidence, Glasgow remains a city ripe for artistic and economic regeneration, and Alexander Goudie stands as a shining, flamboyant and deeply heartfelt example of what it means to love and believe in this city.
We thank the Goudie family for generously sharing archive materials that enrich this exhibition.
