This concert will celebrate the release of jazz pianist Paul Harrison’s long awaited new album Encontros – which brings a Scottish twist to the warmth and spark of Brazilian music.

Encontros brings a Scottish twist to the warmth and spark of Brazilian music - specifically, the melodies of the virtuoso innovator Egberto Gismonti.
The album is the culmination of years of exploration and discovery through improvising, and brings together a cast of international guest performers including Edmundo Carneiro, Fraser Fifield and Su-a Lee. Encontros was recorded in intimate duo settings as well as large ensembles.
Paul’s group Trio Mágico, featuring Mario Caribé on bass and Stu Brown on drums, is already a favourite of Soundhouse audiences and featured in our 2021 online series.
For this special concert expect the trio’s adventurous approach to be taken to new heights with the addition of two special guests from the album. They are saxophonist Laura Macdonald and vocalist Rachel Lightbody, both luminaries of the Scottish jazz scene.
This will be an evening uniting rhythm and melody, a celebration of what can be created when people come together.
