This Dressmaking Course will teach you how to sew your own clothes with a perfect fit while improving your sewing techniques. Whether you want to create a handmade wardrobe, alter and upcycle clothes, or refine your pattern-fitting skills, this course provides the expertise you need. Take a sustainable fashion approach by learning to repair, alter, and upcycle your existing wardrobe instead of buying new.
**10 week course on Wednesday mornings from 23 April until 25 June
If you haven’t taken one of my foundation-level sewing courses, please read the ‘Who is this aimed at?’ section below to ensure you have the required sewing machine skills.
What You’ll Learn:
How to choose the right sewing pattern for your skill level
Taking accurate body measurements and adjusting patterns for a perfect fit
Cutting, fitting, and understanding commercial patterns
Sewing techniques for professional finishes—so your clothes look handmade, not homemade
Pattern alterations and upcycling techniques
Slow fashion sewing: make quality garments that last
This small class size ensures you get personalized sewing tuition tailored to your project. Whether you're working on DIY fashion, pattern fitting, or garment construction, you’ll receive expert guidance every step of the way.
Who Is This Course For?
This course is focused on dressmaking techniques and garment construction, rather than learning to sew from scratch. You should already:
✔️ Be confident using a sewing machine
✔️ Have completed at least two or three sewing projects
✔️ Understand basic seams, hems, and edge-neatening techniques
✔️ Have some experience with zips and buttonholes
If you’re new to sewing techniques or need a refresher, consider taking one of my Foundation Sewing Classes first.
Course Details & What to Bring:
Bring your own pattern, fabric, thread, interfacing, zips, or buttons
You may need calico (toile fabric) for test-fitting your garment
A basic sewing kit: scissors, pins, tape measure, chalk pencils/fabric markers
Sewing machines are available in the studio, or you can bring your own
Take the next step toward creating your own handmade wardrobe. Whether you’re looking to perfect your dressmaking skills, upcycle fashion, or master sewing patterns and fitting, this course will help you achieve professional results.
