The Darkness Descends on Ayr: The Blackheart Market Takes Over Town Hall! đź’€
Mark your calendars, Ayr! Something spooky this way comes…
On Saturday, 31st January, the historic Ayr Town Hall will be transformed into a haven for the strange, the unusual, and the beautifully macabre as the legendary Blackheart Market rolls into town.
If you are tired of the same old high street shops and are craving something with a bit more bite, this is the event you have been waiting for. Known across Scotland for its incredible atmosphere, The Blackheart Market is the ultimate destination for fans of horror, goth, and alternative culture.
A Ghostly Anniversary
We couldn't have picked a better venue... or a better date. Legend has it that exactly 100 years ago to the day—on the freezing night of January 31st, 1926—a nameless drifter was dragged into the holding cells that still sit beneath the Town Hall. He hadn't committed a crime, but was lifted for "disturbing the peace" after terrified locals reported him whispering to shadows by the river.
The constables locked him in Cell 4, ignoring his warning that "The Blackheart is coming." By 3 AM, the station fell dead silent. When the morning guard unlocked the heavy iron door, the cell was empty. No tunnel, no broken lock, no trace of the man—except for a single, perfect heart scratched deep into the stone wall. To this day, staff say Cell 4 is always freezing cold... perhaps he never left? 👻
What Can You Expect?
Prepare to wander through aisles packed with the UK’s finest independent creators and traders. Whether you are hunting for:
• Horror-themed collectibles and spooky home dĂ©cor.
• Gothic apparel and alternative fashion to upgrade your wardrobe.
• Stunning original artwork and handmade crafts you won’t find anywhere else.
From animatronics that might just wink at you to one-of-a-kind jewellery pieces that scream “personality,” there is something for every creature of the night.
Entry & Optional Support
We are proud to keep The Blackheart Market an inclusive community event, which is why general entry is Completely Free. However, keeping the darkness alive isn't cheap!
If you want to help us keep these events running and touring towns across Scotland, we have introduced Optional Donation Tickets. Every single penny goes directly towards venue hire, staff, and logistics. It is never expected, but always appreciated—and it helps ensure the horrors can return next year!
A Note for Parents: Parental Discretion Advised
While The Blackheart Market is an inclusive event, parents should be aware that this isn’t your typical craft fair. Due to the nature of the horror genre, some items on display may include gore, scary imagery, or adult themes. We love seeing little monsters enjoying the spooky season early, but please use your own discretion when bringing younger children. Some of the animatronics and artwork are designed to give a fright, so it may be best suited for older kids or those brave enough to face the darkness!
Support Local, Shop Spooky
This is a fantastic opportunity to support small businesses and independent artists while immersing yourself in a community that celebrates the darker side of creativity.
So, don’t be afraid to step into the shadows. Gather your coven, grab your friends, and head down to Ayr Town Hall on Saturday, 31st January.
Come for the scares, stay for the treasures. We’ll see you there… if you dare!
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
