As winter draws to a close and the first blooms of spring begin to arrive on Calton Hill, the Cailleach (the Celtic goddess of winter) is preparing for her long hibernation through the summer…
Join us for a weekend of playful and creative outdoor activities to lull the Cailleach to sleep and welcome the warmer months.
Each day we’ll be crafting magical offerings, travelling through green-screened lands, taking part in themed loose parts play, and ending the day with a procession around the site to the City Observatory, where we’ll celebrate together as the Cailleach’s eyes close and Spring arrives!
Collective’s Play Lead Artist, Frieda Ford and Play Assistants Joanna and Alex, have designed this weekend of family fun, alongside families from our free Friday Play programme.
The weekend will feature a guest appearance from performance artist Seamus Killick on both Saturday and Sunday.
Ideal for children aged 5-12 years old.
This event is free but ticketed, with morning and afternoon time slots available:
Saturday 11 May, 11am-1pm
