About Queer Folks‘ Tales with Turan Ali, Emma Christie, Rujazzle and Emma Martin

Welcome to Queer Folks’ Tales, our multiple 5 star rated, hugely popular bi-monthly storytelling show!
★★★★★ “Utterly fabulous” (The Q Review)

Queer Folks' Tales is back for 2024! Queer storytellers from a diverse range of backgrounds, ages and cultures around Edinburgh and Scotland share stories of LGBTQ+ lives, past, present and future. Sometimes hilarious, often moving, occasionally shocking, the mix of true and fictional stories across the year is as varied as the range of storytellers we invite.

Household names feature alongside new and diverse queer storytellers from the different communities of Scotland. Many of the stories told in the Queer Folks' Tales evenings will be true stories of LGBTQ+ experience in Scotland today. Hosted by Edinburgh’s Turan Ali, joined in February by Emma Christie, Rujazzle and Emma Martin.

Turan Ali has been producing, directing and writing BBC Radio dramas and comedies for over 20 years. He has also been telling stories of queer lives and experiences on stage since 2012, and more recently as a stand up. His shows have toured internationally and he has two sell out monthly storytelling shows in Vienna. He is the host and producer of Queer Folks’ Tales.

Emma Christie writes psychological thrillers set in Portobello, Edinburgh's thriving seaside neighbourhood. Her debut novel The Silent Daughter (2021), was shortlisted for many awards and her second novel Find Her First (2022) was highly acclaimed. Her third novel In Her Shadow will be published in February 2024. When she's not travelling in her campervan, Emma lives in Barcelona with her girlfriend Mari and far too many plants.

Rujazzle aka Ruairidh D Bowen is a Glasgow-based artist and drag performer. Their artwork has been celebrated by the BBC, and galleries including Tate, National Galleries of Scotland, V&A Dundee and London’s Courtauld Institute. As their drag persona Rujazzle, they have toured the UK and Europe, and hosts, performs and produces all over Scotland, even appearing in an ad for Irn Bru.

Emma Martin is a queer, non-binary singer-songwriter who has deep melodic vocals and uses music as a powerful conversation starter. Embracing controversial lyrics (as in their song Deeds not Words, commissioned by Powa Scotland) they love being involved in the LGBTQIA+ community, especially as an inaugural member of queer music platform, Bogha Frois (Queer Voices in Folk Music) .
