Our animated shorts programme celebrates extraordinary animation from around the globe, showcasing a dizzying range of styles, techniques, genres and ideas. The programme is co-curated with guest creatives, each looking at animation from different social and artistic perspectives.
Our final shorts programme is curated by Manipulate Arts Associate Programmer Holly Summerson, a Scotland-based animator, illustrator and community artist. In these innovative non-dialogue shorts, complicated parts of being human are explored through environments, places and nature. Using visual storytelling and a wide range of stunning animation techniques, the programme explores themes including grief, conflict, resentment, selfishness and healing.
From stop-motion axolotls to a stand-off between children and wasps, the films ask questions about our relationship with the natural and built environment and with one another. Programmed with d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing viewers in mind, this wordless lineup shows the power of storytelling beyond words.
Manipulate Festival recommends a 15 rating for this film programme.
Our animated shorts programmes are also available online on 10/11 February. Visit Animated Shorts Programmes Online for information and tickets.
