An immersive audio guide leads its listener through a series of images; an unreliable narrator, its tone fluctuates between direct, abstractly poetic, and contemplative, provoking questions about the tension between what our eyes perceive and the guide’s narration. Does the audio align with how we view the photographs? How many ways can an image be read?
Taking inspiration from Edwin Morgan’s method of writing poetry about images, artist Ellen Renton offers reflections on photography from a visually impaired perspective, cultural understandings of sight, and the failings of image description. Together, the images and text ask: what does ‘seeing’ really mean?
If you have a smartphone and headphones, please bring them in order to access the audio via a QR code. A spare listening device will be provided for those who need it.
This is a free non-ticketed exhibition.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
