Make Your Robot!

About Make Your Robot!

Come along and have some fun at this exciting interactive event! Unleash your creativity and design the robots (or any other kind of technologies) you dream of having in the future to assist you in your home, at school, or the hospital.

A short talk at the beginning of the event will provide some context to uncover the fascinating world of care robotics, exploring its potential and limitations. This will be followed by a discussion and a collage making workshop, during which you will express your unique perspective through visual arts, sharing your personal views on these technologies for care.

With your permission, a professional photographer will take a picture of your creation at the end of the event. These captivating images will then be showcased in a virtual exhibit, sparking a dynamic conversation between roboticists and end-users.

Together, let’s highlight the vital role of end-user involvement in shaping the future of care innovation. Have your say on the future of these technologies! Don't miss this unique chance to be part of a timely dialogue that can empower and inspire!

This event is open to everyone. We particularly welcome families (including young children!), older adults, people with disabilities and their caregivers to attend.

WHAT IS THE IDEA BEHIND THIS EVENT?

Older adults, people with cognitive/physical disabilities, their families (including children), and caregivers are potential end-users of AI and robotic care technologies. However, these populations very often do not have a say in innovation practices. This event provides an opportunity for these audiences to have their needs and opinions heard and to help ensure responsible innovation.

VENUE, ART MATERIALS AND REFRESHMENTS:

Dating back to 1916, the Anatomy Lecture Theatre at Summerhall is a unique horseshoe style space with a capacity of 58.

Art materials will be provided at the venue, just bring your imagination!

Refreshments will also be provided during the event!

ACCESSIBILITY:

Summerhall offers an additional ticket, free of charge, to anyone that requires personal assistance to attend a show at the venue. Please, let Summerhall know at time of booking (either via email, telephone or in person) and they will arrange this for you: email them at info@summerhall.co.uk or phone them at: 0131 560 1580.

Please, inform Summerhall if you, or anyone in your party, are a wheelchair user and they will assist you. The Box Office has a lowered counter (77cm tall) to assist wheelchair users and a T Loop Induction microphone for those customers with hearing devices.

The main entrance to Summerhall has 9 stone steps with no railing. Step-free access is via the side entrance on Summerhall Square. As you enter through the side entrance, The Royal Dick bar is situated to your right (with a ramp at the rear of the bar). There is a ramp directly ahead of you across the courtyard – this leads to the Main Building, including the Box Office, exhibitions and Café.

Summerhall has accessible toilets located on the Ground Floor (where the Anatomy Lecture Theatre is located), First Floor, on the Techcube Ground Floor and in the Royal Dick Bar (information below).

All dogs, including guide dogs and hearing dogs, are always welcome at Summerhall. Dogs must always be kept on a lead.

The Anatomy Lecture Theatre is fitted with a hearing loop for those who have hearing impairments.
