On this fascinating journey through the neuroscience of music and sound, you will learn how the brain hears and responds to music. Why does some music make us cry? Ever wondered how those who are deaf or have hearing loss experience music? How can learning to play music physically change the brain? Is music the key to healthy brain ageing? Helen will discuss the latest research on the neuroscience of music and the role of music for brain health.Prepare to delve into the weird and wonderful world of neuroscience as Helen explains the amazing things that happen between your ears and your brain.
Doors open at 7pm, talk starts at 7.30pm - come down early to grab a good seat!

Dr Helen Nuttall is a passionate science communicator and Lecturer in Cognitive Neuroscience in the Department of Psychology at Lancaster University UK, where she leads the Neuroscience of Speech and Action (NoSA) Laboratory. The NoSA Lab investigate research questions surrounding how speech, action, and cognition are represented in the brain, our neuroplastic ability, and how our brains are affected by ageing and disease. She uses a variety of methods including brain imaging and brain stimulation to understand the links between the brain and our behaviour.
