Venue: Lecture Theatre 5, 40 George Square, University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, EH8 9JX.
Writer and explorer Louis Hall first discovered the power of the horse while in search of a tribe in northern Mongolia. In 2022, he and his Arabian horse, Sasha, set off from Siena, Italy and headed west. What was intended to be a journey to Cape Finisterre became the challenge of a lifetime. As an obstruction to so many in the past, the crossing of the Ligurian Alps became the defining moment of this ambitious trek to ‘the end of the land’. Battling snowstorms, injury, untamed trails, wolves and the freezing cold, the journey into the ‘claustrophobic nightmare’ forced Louis and his horse to the limit.
