The exhibition will feature new work by Pearl and Stoddart, alongside local contributors, including professional artists, authors, people new to creating art, and their families.
Contributors explored themes of ‘ritual and communal gatherings’ and ‘letters to my lineage’ in workshops led by Pearl and Courtney. Through creative writing and drawing exercises, participants explored themes including sensory experiences and the reimagined self; foods that were loved, missed or hard to find; relationships with the land; conversations with ancestors.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a printed anthology, with copies going to high schools across Edinburgh.
'Windrush Legacy Creative Reflections celebrates and pays homage to the Windrush Generation (arriving 1948 - 1971), the Belizean lumberjacks and Caribbean people who came before and after 1948, and their descendants who made their homes in Scotland. By remembering and celebrating the abundance of cultural contributions and the resilience of our ancestors, while exploring our experiences of life in Scotland today, we can dream into optimistic, anti-racist, and reparative futures' Jeda Pearl
This exhibition builds on the former project 'Respect! Caribbean Life in Edinburgh' which ran from October 2022 to February 2023.
