We have a whole day planned for you to learn from our experts, from our conservators and archaeologists, to our gardeners and curators. You will have the opportunity to see first hand to see what goes into caring for our buildings and landscapes with a variety of workshops and talks. You can even take part in an archaeological dig!
CHILDRENS WORKSHOP - Learn the daily tasks of a housekeeper in the 18th century, in the stunning surroundings of our Library, using the original inventories from our archives and creating your own. Ages 6-12.
ARCHIVES TALK - Delve into the fascinating archives of the NTS, uncover historic secrets and learn how we use this information to tell the story of our properties.
GARDENS TALK - Discover the work that the NTS gardeners do within our many historic gardens, woodlands and the care taken for our beautiful plant collections.
HISTORIC SCRAPBOOKS TALK - A fascinating talk and look at the scrapbooks of Margaret McTaggart Stewart, from her early years to her marriage to David Dalrymple and beyond.
ARCHAEOLOGY TALK - Learn of our 18th century designed landscape which reflects the aspirations and ideals of the Dalrymple Family and the class divisions of the 18th and 19th centuries.
ARCHAEOLOGY MINI DIG - Come and take part in a mini dig, and then study the artefacts left behind by past occupants.
GARDENS WORKSHOPS - Join our head gardener in our market garden, learning about our wonderful planning and have a go at digging yourself.
MEMBERSHIP - Find out everything you need to know about our exceptional membership and all the many benefits of joining.
FUNDRAISING - Hear out about the fundraising that happens across the Trust and how this is used at our amazing sites for the future.
VOLUNTEERS - We couldn't survive without our wonderful team of volunteers, have a chat, and find out what they do, and maybe even join up with us.
BUG BUSTERS - Bugs and beasties are always around the house, learn how we eliminate them and how to recognize them in your environment.
CARING FOR OUR COLLECTIONS - Conservators will be on hand to discuss how you can expertly care for your loved family objects and show you how we approach the conservation of collections at the Trust.
CONSERVATION DEMONSTRATIONS - See how staff clean and care for our valuable collection and learn a few tricks on how to do this yourself.
ARCHIVES - Delve into the past with a collection of corporate archives in the form of guidebooks, leaflets, and memorabilia.
HISTORY - Learn about all our different sites across Scotland. From the Newhailes timeline to the birds at St Abb. Please bring along any history you may have from Newhailes past.
