A portrait of the director's home city and his childhood during 'The Troubles', as seen through the eyes of a working class protestant kid .
Kenneth Branagh has for so long been part of the British film and theatre establishment that it is easy to forget he originally hails from Northern Ireland. In this stately love letter to his home city, he views The Troubles-era Belfast of his childhood through the eyes of screen surrogate Buddy (Jude Hill), a young working class protestant kid from a tight-knit family.
Winning the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, the film has proven to be one of the box office successes of the immediate post-pandemic period.
