The 2022 First Stages Writers are a group of six writers selected from our 2020 Open Submissions initiative, and have received personal creative and script development with the Traverse’s Literary Manager, Artistic Team, Associate Artists and a company of theatremakers.

This is the public's first chance to experience these exciting new voices and stories as they make their way to a full production.

TOBOJO (Boris Johnson is Toast) by Jack Gemmell

On the one year anniversary of Boris Johnson's death, now known as B-day, he is reincarnated as a piece of toast. Lex is astonished to see Toast Boris Johnson (or ToBoJo) leap from the toaster, but the pair gradually come to the realisation that together they can speak truth to power and turn history around – if they can only get to Downing Street. a darkly comic and searingly direct look at the politics of the pandemic.

Yes Chef by Laurie Ogden

Only 18.7% of chefs in the UK are women. There are more female CEO's nationally than female Head Chefs. The fish rots from the head.

A witty and compelling story inspired by real interviews, Yes Chef exposes the reality behind closed kitchen doors. We follow Danni and Lola as they experience the highs, lows, euphoria and brutality of life in a Michelin star restaurant as young women in a male dominated industry.

£1 tickets are available for this event.

This event will take place in person at the Traverse Theatre.

This event is part of our First Stages Festival - a celebration of storytelling and playwriting.
