Every year, over 100,000 Mexicans living in the USA are deported to Mexico. Many of them have spent decades in the US, working, paying taxes, starting families; some can barely speak Spanish. From one day to the next, they are torn away from everything they’ve known, unable to return home or appeal their deportation.
Rocio, Sergio and Richard try to make ends meet in the border town of Tijuana, where a booming call centre industry outsources deportees’ skills to US companies.
On the Line follows its protagonists over the course of a year, capturing their struggle against a growing sense of loss and the threat of erasure, to deliver a quietly powerful indictment against the inhumane arbitrariness of immigration policies.
