The dramatic surroundings of the Institut français d'Écosse on Edinburgh's haunted Royal Mile will provide the atmospheric setting for the screening on Friday 31st October.
Accompanied by a live pianist performing the original score by Hans Erdmann, this classic of the horror genre from 1922 will be projected onto a 13 foot screen. This event is only suitable for ages 10+.
“Nosferatu" – the infamous 1922 German adaption of Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel “Dracula” was an unauthorised and unofficial adaption of Stoker’s vampire classic. It sees various names and other details changed from the novel, including Count Dracula being renamed Count Orlok. It is believed by many that these changes were implemented in an attempt to avoid accusations of copyright infringement. Even with several details altered, Stoker’s heirs sued over the adaption – at one point all copies of the film were ordered to be destroyed! Thankfully a few prints of “Nosferatu” survived and the film came to be regraded as an influential masterpiece of cinema.
Tickets are priced at £10 each and can be purchased through Eventbrite (booking fee applies). Each screening of an abridged version of Nosferatu has a running time of c60mins. Tickets are not transferable between screenings. Children must have their own ticket and be accompanied by a paying adult. Please note that food and drink (including alcohol) is not permitted in the auditorium. Venue staff reserve the right to refuse admission.
Please note that tickets are non-refundable except in the event that the screening is cancelled (booking fees are non-refundable).
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
