Dusherra the flagship event of the Scottish Indian Arts Forum is being held on 13th October 2019 on top of Calton Hill in Edinburgh. Dusherra, one of the largest festivals in India, commemorates a 10 day war between the gods and demons thousands of years ago. It is celebrated with gusto by communities with music, dance, food and a symbolic burning of the Effigies of the demons to celebrate the victory of good over evil.
This year’s cultural programme features a mixture of Scottish and Indian music and dance.
We are pleased to have a dedicated children’s marquee with arts and crafts workshop along with various kids' activity. This helps children understand different cultures and diversity by engaging in activities together. Food stalls provided by the Bawarchi restaurant in Glasgow and Kamasutra based out of Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The event culminates in the burning of effigies and the fireworks.
2019 marks the 25th anniversary of the SIAF. We aspire to increase the footfall to Dusherra to celebrate this occasion and Spread Indian cultural awareness and values across a wide cross section population.
