Since 2015, The Main Course has built a strong reputation for Italian cooking shaped by Scottish produce, steady service and a festive atmosphere that suits groups, families and work nights out.

If you’re planning a Christmas lunch with colleagues, a family gathering or a relaxed night out with friends, The Main Course offers comfort, warmth and a menu that brings people back year after year. The restaurant is family-run and award-winning, with a menu that focuses on sharp flavour and simple Italian techniques. The festive dishes set the tone straight away: scallops on pea purée with crispy pancetta; arancini with mushroom and truffle; tempura prawns with clean lemon mayo; and a Parmigiana that’s rich without feeling heavy. The mains keep the pace. Lobster ravioli in saffron cream with king prawns is a standout. The braised beef shin is slow-cooked until soft, served with potato purée and roasted roots. The turkey roulade brings a classic plate done well, with homemade stuffing, sprouts and roast potatoes. The pan-fried hake sits on celeriac purée with fried capers for a sharp finish. Desserts stay light and balanced — sticky toffee pudding with mascarpone and raspberry gelato, chocolate mousse with white chocolate ganache, and an affogato with amaretto.

The bar supports the menu with classic cocktails, house mixes and a wine list that blends Italian staples with strong Scottish producers. The whole place feels set up for December evenings that run on good food, easy conversation and proper hospitality.

Co-owner Luciano Crolla, who runs the restaurant with his wife Anna, said: “The Main Course feels like an extension of our home. We cook the food we love, using Scottish produce we trust. People return because they feel looked after, and that means everything to us.”
