EDINBURGH, 20 November 2025 - To celebrate Girls in Aviation Day, United Airlines has offered an unforgettable experience to 13 girls through a tour of its operations at Edinburgh Airport, showcasing the endless career opportunities available in the aviation sector. The fourth to sixth year students were selected from Holycross High School Hamilton, a secondary school in South Lanarkshire.
On this special day, hosted by United Airlines and Edinburgh Airport, participants had the opportunity to learn about what happens behind the scenes at the airport. The girls enjoyed an airport tour, taking in the ground handling operation and aircraft turnaround activities. Their excitement grew as they stepped on board a United Boeing 757-200 aircraft, marvelling at the scale and complexity of the operation. A highlight of the day was the opportunity to visit the cockpit, as well as hear from inspiring leaders, from United pilots to operations, who shared their career stories and invaluable advice, sparking a sense of possibility and empowerment in the group.

"Students were able to explore real aviation environments and learn about the many different opportunities our industry has to offer, from Engineering and Operations to Inflight. This initiative aims to inspire the next generation of aviation leaders and seeing the girls' enthusiasm throughout the day was truly wonderful. We hope the experience sparked curiosity, ambition, and a vision for a future career in aviation."
