Want to taste one of the best pizza pies on the planet? You don’t need to travel to Italy or the US – you can treat your tastebuds to a world-class culinary experience right here in Scotland. Because according to the foodies at Time Out, Civerinos serves up “some of the best slices you'll ever shove down your gob” and has earned itself a place on their official list of the 19 best pizzas in the world.
Fighting off stiff competition from around the globe and coming in at a lucky number 13 on the list, Civerinos’ New Haven-style pizza grabbed the food critics’ attention for all the right reasons. Featuring a traditional thin, charred crust, the dough base for this head-turning, lip-smacking, cheese-pulling feast is crafted by their in-house experts using 00 flour, the highest quality extra virgin olive oil, sea salt and pure Scottish water. It’s then proved for up to 72 hours before being hand-stretched and slathered in double marinara made from the best San Marzano tomatoes, fresh basil, oregano and confit garlic. Finally, it’s topped with a carefully curated combo of Italian sausage, burrata, pepperoni, rosemary, black pepper, parsley and garlic oil, before being baked to pizza pie perfection.
The result packs a punch powerful enough to impress Time Out’s esteemed crew of travel writers and international editorial staff who were tasked with hunting down the best pizza parlours on the planet – from Cape Town to Lisbon, Buenos Aires to Miami, and everywhere in between.
Praising this palate-pleasing pizza, one Time Out writer said; “With its chewy crusts, coal-fired bases, sweet-but-tangy marinara sauce and carefully curated toppings, I’d argue this New Haven-style pizza joint is up there with some of the best”.
In response, the Civerinos team said they were “Full of gratitude and grated cheese,” and thanked Time Out “For giving us our flowers”.
Pizza lovers wanting to grab a piece of the action can enjoy it by the slice (it’s a whole meal in itself), or share a 14” or 20” pizza with pals at any of Civerinos’ five locations in Stockbridge, Forrest Road, Hunter Square and Portobello in Edinburgh, as well as in Glasgow’s Finnieston.
“Fresh pizza. Good times” – the Civerinos mantra is now a recipe for global success!
