19 February 2025: MPB, the largest global platform for buying, selling, and trading used photography and videography gear, is proud to announce its sponsorship of Stills Centre for Photography in Edinburgh, a leading centre for photography exhibitions, learning, and photography innovation.
This exciting partnership highlights MPB’s ongoing commitment to supporting the creative community and fostering access to the visual arts. Stills, located in the heart of Edinburgh, has been a cornerstone of Scotland’s photographic landscape for over four decades, showcasing work by leading artists and providing opportunities for photographers of all levels to develop their skills and passion.
Stills School is Stills’ year-round alternative photography school for 16-25 year olds who face barriers to accessing the arts. It is completely free of charge. Through photography, Stills School offers participants a safe space to explore, learn and express themselves, while inspiring creativity and developing new transferable skills along the way.
As part of the sponsorship, MPB will collaborate with Stills to support their year-round programme of free exhibitions, wide range of photography courses, and community learning initiatives. The sponsorship will also help provide access to cutting-edge equipment, resources, and educational opportunities for photographers and visual artists in Edinburgh and beyond.
Matt Barker, CEO and Founder of MPB, said: "Photography is about storytelling, exploration, and creativity. Stills has been a beacon for photographic art and education, and we’re thrilled to support their mission of inspiring the next generation of image-makers."
Claire Cochrane, Creative Learning Manager, Stills, added: “Since launching the School in 2018, I’ve noticed how the young people take part and really invest themselves in the course, seeing it as a vital first stepping stone, an opportunity to build confidence and to learn skills in a new environment. Importantly, they work with artists and have access to high quality teaching and resources, often for the first time. MPB’s donation of used kit to Stills School will directly support students to carry out their course curriculum.”
The sponsorship is part of MPB’s broader mission to make photography and videography more sustainable and accessible. By enabling photographers to trade in, buy, or sell used equipment, MPB plays a key role in extending the lifecycle of creative tools to reduce environmental impact.
Opening this week, Twenty Five is an exhibition featuring the work of young people who participated in the Stills School programme last year. The event runs from 18 February – 1 March 2025, and there is a preview event on Friday 21 February, from 6 – 8pm. For more information, visit: stills.org/exhibitions/twenty-five
