Pioneering Scottish jazz and soul artist Georgia Cécile releases her latest EP, City Girl, reflecting the bold new direction of her sound—a fresh, clean, and cool blend of jazz roots with the vibrant energy of modern soul and R&B. Georgia is leading the jazz and soul revival in a year that is destined to be big for her.
Championed by modern greats: Gregory Porter and Jamie Cullum, Cécile toured as the main support for Gregory Porter, opening four nights at the Royal Albert Hall. Cécile’s band of top jazz players have featured widely across UK and European Festivals, including Love Supreme, Cheltenham and London Jazz Festival.
Infused with the warmth of 60s and 70s soul-jazz icons like Quincy Jones and Lee Morgan, City Girl delivers a polished, contemporary sound, with a blend of lush strings, subtle electronic textures, and warm horns. Cécile is passionate about the transformative power of music and how it brings us together. Inspired by her recent music trips to New York and recent move to London, the EP features a diverse ensemble of top musicians from all around the world - infusing the EP with diversity, community, optimism, and joy.
On how cities impact her musical stylings, Cécile says, “Living in a large metropolis gives me complete permission to express myself. It brings creative kindred spirits together from all corners of the earth and offers a sense of community for those of us who feel like outsiders. I hope this music inspires others to be fully themselves and feel joy without needing a reason.”
Stylish through and through, Cécile's whole persona is chic and refreshing. The dynamic and nostalgic music videos for singles "This is Love" and “Communion” immediately transport viewers to The Georgia Cécile Show, a homage to the 60s and 70s prime time broadcasting, with technicolour, charm and sparkles galore. The energy emanating on screen embodies the themes of community and the transformative power of music.
Polished, uplifting and sophisticated, Cécile's music is rich in storytelling and possesses soulful, emotional depth. Contrasting lush strings with groovy horns inspired by Stevie Wonder, Cécile is pushing genre boundaries, with elements of R&B blended with retro soul-jazz. Accompanied by Cécile's unique husky timbre, the EP makes you feel like you’re in the thick of an underground jazz bar immersed inthe music.
Leading the new wave of UK jazz crossover artists, Cécile is fresh off a run of sold out tour dates in Paris, Milan, Latvia and four sold out show's at London's iconic Ronnie Scotts. The mesmerising kinetic energy of Cécile and triumphant, dynamic live instrumentation is a marvel to see live, and Georgia Cécile is embarking on the City Girl tour later this year, in Edinburgh, and London and Brighton in March. It's not one to miss.
