This summer, the Students’ Association will host a variety of dynamic festival spaces, collaborating with highly acclaimed entertainment groups such as Pleasance London and Gilded Balloon. They will be located in several of Edinburgh’s most historical places, including Teviot Row House, the world’s oldest student union building.
“Undoubtedly impressive” Teviot Row House will host Gilded Balloon, one of Scotland’s leading festival companies. The venue is also home to one of the city's oldest bars, The Library Bar, which serves a varied menu both day and night. Gilded Balloon and Pleasance London are set to deliver a packed programme with a wide range of food and drink from around the world.
Following its successful debut last year — named as one of Fringe 2022’s top places to be — the Potterrow Plaza will return outside the Pleasance Dome, this time with an extended space. It will be accompanied by the popular interactive simulation Séance & Flight (Pleasance Theatre Trust) and food stall Mint, which offers its renowned Chicken and Halloumi Wrap and plenty of meat-eater and vegan options.
The Pleasance Courtyard will be packed with city favourite bars and food vendors such as Pizza Geeks, Harajuku Kitchen, Smash & Stack and Mimi’s Bakehouse. The bustling area is a great spot to enjoy the festival come rain or shine, sitting under a canopy of umbrellas and stretch tents in the traditional cobbled courtyards.
The Garden at Teviot is a hidden gem next to the busy Bristo Square. The garden offers colourful beach huts (seating 6), two full-service bars, coffee from Edinburgh’s Throat Punch and delicious local produce from Ròst Eats.
Outside the Garden you will find Charles Street Lane lined with street food staples, including Mac Love with their popular mac ‘n’ cheese, Screaming Peacock offering a variety of sustainable food and Crema Caravan with their famous churros.
A broad selection of drinks will be available across the venues, with Molson Coors products featuring in all locations. Coors, Prahva, Carling, Staropramen, Guinness, Rekorderlig ciders, Johnnie Walker, Gordon’s Gin, Fever Tree softs and more will also be available. There will also be a selection of cocktails on draught so guests won’t have to wait long to be served and can even grab a cocktail in a can whilst queuing for performances.
The best bit? You can enjoy all the Students’ Assocation has to offer while helping Edinburgh’s student community. Edinburgh University Students' Association is a registered charity, providing services, representation and welfare support at the University of Edinburgh for over 49,000 members. Profits from its Fringe venues and outlets go towards these services, helping enhance students’ experiences during their time at university.
“One of my favourite things about Edinburgh is that we get to deliver the most amazing and vibrant cultural festival, Fringe! Our Association’s integral part in the festival means we can generate funds to support our students. We hope everyone who visits enjoys the city and has a great time visiting our venues!” Sharan Atwal, Students’ Association President.
This year, Student’s Association is also supporting student theatre with the long-awaited return of the Bedlam Theatre, Britain’s the oldest student-run theatre.
The venues are open to both the public and students, and are situated within close walking distance.
Edinburgh University Students’ Association’s programming partners are Gilded Balloon (Teviot) and Pleasance Theatre Trust (Pleasance and Dome), two of the most respected and creative at the Fringe Festival.
