A unique underground space in Edinburgh, located just off the Royal Mile, buried for over 200 years and rediscovered in 2019. The Lost Close offers intimate whisky, gin, and beer tasting experiences underground. Led by expert storytellers, each small-group session blends Scotland’s finest drinks with history. The Lost Close also hosts walking tours around the Old Town and underground vaults.

Underground Whisky Tasting - Daily 5pm and 8.30pm
Step underground into The Lost Close, a hidden vaulted space in the heart of Edinburgh, for an unforgettable 90-minute whisky tasting that brings together history, storytelling, and exceptional Scotch.

Led by a knowledgeable local guide, you'll explore the origins, evolution, and craftsmanship of Scotland's most iconic spirit. Alongside fascinating tales of Scotland's history and the pivotal role whisky has played in shaping its culture, you'll learn about how Scotch is made, how to taste it properly, and what makes each dram distinct.

Choose from three curated tasting levels, suited for everyone from beginners to connoisseurs:

Whisky 101 (Beginner) - £37/person - Perfect for those just beginning their whisky journey. Sample four classic Scotch whiskies, each from one of Scotland's major whisky-producing regions. Learn how to nose, taste, and appreciate the unique qualities of each dram in a relaxed and informative setting.

Intermediate Tasting - £49/person Ideal for those who've had a dram or two and are ready to discover something new. Explore four distinctive whiskies from across the regions, focusing on independent bottlers, unique cask finishes, and lesser-known gems you wont easily find again. Expect surprises, complexity, and bold flavours.

High-End Tasting - £89/person - Crafted for true whisky lovers. Try five rare and exceptional drams, including aged rarities, limited editions, and unique cask expressions. This experience is a deep dive into Scotland's finest whiskies, served in a truly atmospheric underground setting.

All tastings take place simultaneously in The Lost Close, with guests seated by tasting level, so everyone can enjoy the same storytelling and historic setting - just with a different whisky line-up.

Evolution of Gin & Gin Tasting - Daily 7pm- £25

Follow the journey of gin from its earliest origins to the modern spirit we know and love - all in one of Edinburgh's most atmospheric hidden venues.

Your guide will lead you through the history of gin, its connection to Scotland, and its transformation over the centuries - from Jenever to Old Tom, Navy Strength, and London Dry. You'll also explore the story of tonic water, originally used for medicinal purposes, and how it became gin's perfect partner.

You'll sample four distinct gins, with expert guidance on flavour profiles, ideal mixer pairings, and suggested garnishes. The mixing is left up to you, so you can create your perfect serve – whether you prefer it bold and strong or light and refreshing.
