Step beneath the Royal Mile for a Burns Night unlike any other. This is an evening woven with poetry, history and a dram or two, all set within the uniquely preserved streets and spaces that lie deep below Edinburgh’s Old Town.
Join us for a special one hour guided tour where the stories of the city’s past meet the words of Scotland’s national bard. Listen as Burns’ verses echo through the Close, uncover the darker truths of seventeenth century life and raise a glass of whisky to the man whose work continues to shape Scottish culture.
Round off your experience with an optional four course Taste of Scotland dinner at Amber Restaurant, part of The Scotch Whisky Experience, just a short stroll along the Royal Mile. It’s the perfect way to continue your evening of celebration.
What’s included
• One hour guided tour of The Real Mary King’s Close, including recitals of Burns’ poetry
• A dram of whisky per person at the end of the tour
• Optional four course Taste of Scotland dinner at Amber Restaurant, with your table reserved 30 minutes after your tour concludes
Why Burns Night?
Each January, Scotland honours the life and legacy of Robert Burns (1759–1796). From heartfelt poems to timeless songs like Auld Lang Syne, his words have travelled far beyond the borders of his homeland. The tradition of Burns Night began in 1801 when friends gathered to remember the poet with food, whisky and verse. More than two centuries later, the celebration endures, bringing people together to share stories, raise a toast and enjoy the rich tapestry of Scottish culture.
