What happens when you’ve created the worst hit song ever – at least according to the music press? What comes after fleeting fame, and what does it mean to grow old still chasing a dream?
The film follows fading pop star Dene Michael as he clings to the remnants of fame he once had as a member of 1980s novelty pop group Black Lace, the band’s universally known hit Agadoo. Now, performing for a dwindling, ageing audience in some of the UK’s most deprived seaside towns and cities, he’s eager to press on with his music career and get out from under the legacy of the Black Lace songbook.
Full of heart, humour, and a distinctly British wink, Still Pushing Pineapples takes us on a journey through faded fame, working-class culture, and the strange magic of a pop hit that refuses to die.
After the film, join us for a Q&A where the filmmaking team will discuss building trust with contributors and navigating the ethical considerations that shaped their work.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
