Artist Of the Year 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 – Americana UK Readers’ Poll
Join Leith’s favourite son and Soundhouse favourite Dean Owens for the now traditional pre Christmas show - a night of unfestive songs and banter with Dean and his band of Sinners. And this year it’s at a new venue – in the main space at the beautiful Pleasance Theatre, with great sound and lighting.
Dean occupies the unlikely common ground between the cultures of post industrial Scotland, America’s desert states and the lush Italian hills. And fertile ground it is too! With tales of love and lust, sinners and saints, the displaced, the wanderers and the border ghosts, and Dean’s spellbinding delivery. Humour, melancholy and great songs all intertwined.
The Sinners are Craig Ross (guitar), Adam McMillan (double bass) and Philip Cardwell (trumpet) – and will be joined for the night by guest Sinner, drummer Andy Duncan – the same lineup that rocked their appearance at Cambridge Folk Festival last year. Simultaneously rousing and balm for the soul. Some special guests are likely to drop in too.
Expect old faves and new songs including from Dean’s stunning current album Spirit Ridge, recorded in Italy in the land of his lion tamer ancestor.
With special guests: The Agents of Happiness
This is a brand new band, making their live debut. For lovers of The Traveling Wilburys, Tom Petty, Springsteen and Steve Earle. They will play a short set before Dean takes to the stage with The Sinners.
“Owens sings with a dark majesty that matches the gigantic emotional pull of his songs… dirt caked desert noir" **** – Mojo
