Chill out and experience legendary surfers expressing themselves alongside local chargers in the frigid waters of Northern Scotland. Cold Rush was filmed and produced by Mark Lumsden in 2004 and was shot on location in the Outer Hebrides and the Scottish mainland capturing the likes of the Curren brothers, Skip Frye, Andrew Kidman, Kassia Meador, Derek Hynd and local Chris Noble among others. The film also features the Resin8 Saltrock team riders in their expedition to the warm water waves of Indonesia.
In an interview with BBC back in 2004, Lumsden shared how everything came together and that at the time, a film depicting the quality of Scotland’s waves was long overdue: “it wasn’t a set plan. I was living in the Canaries and travelling around surfing. Derek MacLeod phoned me and said he was holding a competiton – The Hebridean Surf Festival – in which Tom Curren was competing. I jumped on a plane and went straight to the Hebrides.” Then he spent a whole winter with Devon surfer Eugene Tollemache capturing more footage, and after 4 months of editing in a van Cold Rush was born. Unfortunately, in November 2019, Lumsden passed away doing what he loved, surfing in Lewis where he had been living for two decades and where he had become a very loved member of the community.
However, we are very lucky to be able to relive those special moments captured in Cold Rush more than twenty years later, thanks to everyone that has made it possible.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
